SEMINAR PROGRAM

Three exciting days of Medical Massage Protocols to get therapists closer to the graduation of SOMI’s Medical Massage Certification Program:

Day 1. Basic Medical Massage Techniques

Studying and practicing medical massage without a firm scientific understanding of Basic Medical Massage techniques and their clinical application is impossible.

Hands-on class covers the science behind clinical variations of Medical Massage techniques developed by the Western School of MT. Some presented techniques can be used as part of full-body massage sessions to build up a successful preventive massage therapy practice.

Day 2: Medical Massage Protocol for Osteoarthritis

The second day of the class covers Osteoarthritis (OA) and the chain of pathological events which trigger OA. We will first discuss how to evaluate the soft tissues and joints affected by OA. Afterward, we will showcase the hands-on application of a Medical Massage protocol used to decompress any affected joints and diminish or stop the destructive processes within the cartilage and subchondral bone.

Day 3: Medical Massage Protocol for Anterior Scalene Muscle Syndrome/Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

The Anterior Scalene Muscle Syndrome (ASMS) is nicknamed the “Silent Killer” in somatic medicine. In clinical reality, ASMS can quietly trigger everything from Headaches to Middle Back Pain and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. To isolate and quickly decompress the ASM means controlling the many pathological conditions in the upper body.

During this course, we will discuss the unique pathology of ASM, its evaluation, identification, and an effective treatment protocol that decisively eliminates anterior neck tension and decompresses the brachial plexus. Therapists who able to efficiently decompress tension in the ASM will deliver decisive clinical response in most complex cases of somatic abnormalities in the upper parts of the body.

SOMI’s CEU training program has been tested by Saybrook University, where the United States’ first Ph.D. in Medical Massage was awarded to our former student Dr. Karen Moody, Ph.D., CMMP, LMT. SOMI’s Medical Massage protocols are being successfully used in major hospitals and medical institutions such as the Barrow Neurological Institute, Dignity Health, St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Centers, among others. Our publications are widely used by the Integrative Medicine Department of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, as well as universities, colleges, and massage schools across the nation.
