We changed our Medical Massage seminar settings:

  1. SOMI seminars are highly curated and limited. We, therefore, aspire to work with therapists dedicated to the clinical application of Massage Therapy and who are going to be decisive in-patient care. If you are looking only for CEU’s please consider other educational sources to give space to committed candidates.
  2. We are moving to smaller class sizes to provide therapists with more personal attention and expedite their professional growth in the Medical Massage field.
  3. We will offer some online classes to help therapists finish their Medical Massage Certification program sooner.
  4. We encourage therapists who already took SOMI’s seminars to get in touch with our instructors and our former and current students for ongoing support and clinical guidance in complex treatment cases.

Saturday:  Introduction to Medical Massage from Theory to Application.

The first day of lecture opens the door to the clinical application of Medical Massage. The goal is to build a mental vision of the Medical Massage Concept based on the best scientific data available up to date. We only present referenced scientific data.

Sunday: Middle Back and Chest Pain. Intercostal Nerve Neuralgia

This class covers tension in the middle back muscles: trapezius, paravertebrals, and rhomboids. An essential part of this class is the interactions between the ribs and intercostal muscles and their role in Intercostal Nerve Neuralgia.

We start with the major players’ anatomy, physiology, and function, including respiratory functioning. We then evaluate the middle-back and chest soft tissues and finally learn the Medical Massage protocols needed to eliminate soft tissue tension, including respiratory techniques. Lastly, we discuss assigning patient’s homework and future preventive measures.

Monday: Tennis/Golfer’s Elbow. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The first part of this class covers common abnormalities in elbow functioning: Lateral Epicondylitis, a.k.a Tennis Elbow, and Medial Epicondylitis, a.k.a. Golfer’s Elbow. We then discuss the abnormality’s nature, evaluate the elbow’s soft tissue, and discuss corresponding Medical Massage protocols. Lastly, we cover assigning patient’s homework and future preventive measures.

The second part of this class is dedicated to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. We discuss the difference between local and reflex variants of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, soft tissue evaluation, and the Medical Massage protocol for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Lastly, we cover assigning patient homework and future preventive measures.

This Medical Massage protocol is recognized and used in several hospitals, including world-respected clinical and scientific institutions like the Barrow Neurological Institute. Several of our students have built their entire practice around the clinical effectiveness of Medical Massage Protocols for Chronic Headaches.

SOMI’s CEU training program has been tested by Saybrook University where the United States’ first PhD in Medical Massage was awarded to our former student Dr. Karen Moody, PhD, CMMP, LMT.
