SEMINAR PROGRAM

Three exciting days of Medical Massage Protocols to get therapists closer to the graduation of SOMI’s Medical Massage Certification Program:

Day 1: Medical Massage Protocol for Chronic Cervical Pain

During class, we will cover the anatomy, physiology, pathology and examine the major causes of tension in the posterior cervical muscles (Trapezius and Semispinalis Capitis) and Levator Scapulae muscles.

Next, we will conduct a detailed, layer-by-layer soft tissue evaluation in the posterior neck and upper shoulders. Finally, we will cover a step-by-step Medical Massage Protocol to decompress the skin, fascia, posterior cervical muscles, and periosteum in the posterior neck and upper shoulders.

Day 2: Medical Massage Protocol for Piriformis Muscle Syndrome. Sciatica

The topic of this class is the Piriformis Muscle, a.k.a. the Key to the Lower Extremity. We will cover the anatomy, physiology, and pathology and examine the major causes of tension in the piriformis muscle and its strategic relation to the Sciatic Nerve.

Next, we will conduct a detailed, layer-by-layer soft tissue evaluation of the gluteal area. To wrap up, we will cover a step-by-step Medical Massage Protocol to decompress the skin, fascia, posterior cervical muscles, and periosteum in the lower back and gluteal area.

Day 3: Medical Massage Protocol for Soft Tissue Trauma: Leg Compartment Syndrome and Plantar Fasciitis

During the first part of the class, we will teach therapists how to ‘read’ large hematomas to speed up tissue recovery and prevent side effects of soft tissue trauma: fascial adhesions and muscle shortenings.

In the second part of the class, we will cover evaluation and Medical Massage protocols for all Leg Compartment Syndromes and Plantar Fasciitis.
