Welcome to the Science of Massage Institute. My name is Mary Preuss and I am the Director of  Seminars. For the last several years, I have been working with Dr. Ross Turchaninov to spread  science-backed information to therapists around the world. The results of Medical Massage for myself and for thousands of clients has been nothing short of stunning. Many of these stories are inspiring to those in a pain or therapists seeking to improve their clinical results. I’d like to share a couple of these stories, along with my own, so you can understand the importance of the information on this website.

Mary’s Story

Fourteen years ago, a semi truck hit me and gave me two herniated discs and two bulging discs in my back. I went to the doctor’s and they asked me to do exercises, physical therapy, shots at the hospital; I was on enough medication to take down an elephant. Yet, I was still in the most horrific pain almost a year later. I booked surgery, which had a 20% chance of any improvement at all. It wasn’t a good chance, but I was out of options.

So while was waiting for surgery, a girlfriend of mine called to see how I was doing. Recognizing hopelessness in my voice, she told me about a doctor who had helped her back with Medical Massage. I booked an appointment to have Dr. Ross visit and evaluate me in my home (I was in so much pain I could not even leave my bed). He told me the situation wasn’t very good but that he would commit to working with me and see what the outcome was after a few appointments.

All I could do was move my toes the smallest little bit. We were both thrilled as before I had no movement. Pretty soon, I could move my legs and kick my legs and then progressed to walking back and forth in the pool and doing simple exercises. Thanks to Medical Massage, this was the first improvement I’d had at all in over a year.

After Dr. Ross started working with me, all I could do was move my toes the smallest little bit. We were both thrilled as before I had no movement at all. Pretty soon, I could move my legs and kick my legs and then progressed to walking back and forth in the pool and doing simple exercises. Thanks to Medical Massage, this was the first improvement I’d had at all in over a year. I asked Dr. Ross what I should do about the surgery and he said “Mary, why don’t you wait until I take you as far as we can go and get you as strong as you can be so your surgery outcome will be better.”

And so we continued to work and I expected to plateau at some point and rebook that surgery. He taught me how to move differently: walk, sit, how to do dishes. Everything in my life changed. He helped me understand how to relieve pressure by leaning on things and to work with my limitations.

While I still have some limitations today, I never booked that surgery. Compared to where I came from, the life I lead today is a gift and something I never thought I’d have. I’m so grateful for Medical Massage for that.
