Dear colleagues,

Welcome to JMS’s issue #2 of 2025! We invite you to join us in learning about Massage Science.

In the section SOMI’s News, we introduce six new Certified Medical Massage Practitioners who recently graduated from the Science of Massage Institute’s Certification Program:

Susan E. Peterson, LMT, BCTMB, CMMP, California; Ben Keys, LMT, CMMP, Florida; Sandra J. Abbott, LMT, CMMP, Florida; Kristina Lewis, LMT, CMMP, Nebraska; Dean Tidwell, LMT, CMMP, Arizona.

These therapists are exceptionally talented massage clinicians who can effectively address the most complex clinical cases. We welcome them into SOMI’s Family of like-minded therapists who successfully practice Medical Massage in the USA and other countries!

In the section “Check Your Clinical Reasoning,” we published a clinical case where just visual observation gives the therapist a clue about what they are dealing with.

In the Medical Massage section, we published the following articles:

In Part I of Treating the Pain is Chasing the Tail, Dr. Ross Turchaninov comes back to the discussion of the pain phenomenon and its control by Medical Massage

SOMI’s former student, Brenda Howell, LMT, CMMP, sent us a very interesting clinical case, Medical Massage of Recurrent Leg Compartment Syndrome in a Law Enforcement Officer.

In the Case of the Month section, we published a fascinating clinical case, Medical Massage Vs. Thoracic Outlet Syndrome or Not? submitted by Madison Mawson, LMT from NC. Madison successfully solved a very puzzling clinical case while still studying at the Institute for Massage and Bodywork Therapy in Fayetteville to become a massage therapist!

Thank you!

Dr. Ross Turchaninov, Editor in Chief
