Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Welcome to JMS Issue #3 of 2023. We appreciate the support of our readers from all around the world. Here is the content of the current issue we hope you will enjoy.

In JMS News, we introduce three new therapists who successfully finished SOMI’s Medical Massage Certification program and now help patients in complex clinical situations. They are:

Christina Loya, RN, LMT, CMMP, Hong Nguyen, LMT, CMMP, and Veronica Selby, LMT, CMMP.

In Personal Opinion, we present an article titled Medical Massage Therapy and Veteran Administration Medical Services by SOMI’s former student, Steve Smith, from Littleton, CO. In it, Steve shares his experience of working with veterans who are sent to his clinic by the local VA Hospital. Steve also guides readers on how to start working with the VA to become a provider. This information on how therapists may begin working with medical communities is vital.

In Science of Medical Massage, we have published Part I of the article Why Therapists Need to Know About Hyaluronic Acid, written by Dr. Ross Turchaninov. This article is dedicated to an excellent piece of science directly associated with the formation of Myofascial Pain Syndrome and the correct application of Medical Massage Therapy.

In Case of the Month, our newly graduated CMMP Kristi Tidwell, LMT, from Coolidge, AZ contributes a clinical case, Medical Massage Vs Fruitless Pain Management. Her article is an excellent example of using clinical thinking, thoughtful evaluation, and correctly designed Medical Massage protocol to build up clinical response and solve her patient’s decades-long suffering from chronic pain and dysfunction.
